BuildUp Pods & Pavilions - The spring launch by Glimakra of Sweden 2021 introduces a collection of large-scale, acoustic meeting rooms inspired by the forest, designed by Kauppi & Kauppi. A new concept characterized by openness, functionality, and accessibility – with a mission to create inviting meeting places, and to divide large interiors.

The concept positions itself somewhere between architecture and furniture, re-imagining the archetype of a common pod. A design where the spatial experience has been valued as highly as the acoustic qualities, and where openness and inclusiveness is key, following a Scandinavian design tradition.

“Imagine a forest glade, a calm space embraced by trees, where you are happy to stay a while. A muted restful place, which is never completely quiet. We have carried the forest with us as an inspiration during the entire BuildUp process. The vision has been to design welcoming, comfortable meeting rooms, that neither close in nor excludes. Rooms that offer focus but not necessarily total quietness. Interiors that feel natural to share with others.”  - Kauppi & Kauppi

BuildUp Pods & Pavilions 2021 - By Kauppi & Kauppi for Glimakra of Sweden

BuildUp Pods & Pavilions 2021 - By Kauppi & Kauppi for Glimakra of Sweden

BuildUp Pods & Pavilions includes three pods in different sizes - as well as a fully open pavilion. A round room for 4-6 people meetings (10m²), a medium-sized oval room for group meetings of 8-10 people (17m²) and a large oval room for conference meetings of 12-14 people (20m²). The space dividing open pavilion is well suited for informal touch down meetings or small gatherings. The overall concept has a modest and minimalist expression, making the pods well suited as natural space definers and dividers in large interiors such as office landscapes.

The wall elements have an equally good sound absorption on both insides and outsides. Which means that the muted meeting rooms also serve as an effective acoustic solution for the greater interiors surrounding the pods. The walls acoustic task is to reduce reverberation time - rather than to achieve completely silent settings. The atmosphere inside the pods is restful and muted, while comfortable sound levels from the surroundings outside are maintained.

"Our ambition was to design a spatial experience to long for. The pods are friendly and cozy characters, also functioning as architectural furniture. At the same time, several technical solutions and features has been integrated into the design, to make the rooms functional and creative. Our design reflects the long tradition and great knowledge of wood production, textile upholstering and acoustic solutions that characterize Glimakra of Sweden." - Kauppi & Kauppi

The pods have generous entrances without thresholds that closes with curtains. To enable dynamic and creative meetings, the concepts pods and pavilion are equipped with several details, such as white board, monitor bracket, LED light-strips, power outlets and hidden cable routing. All units have a self-supporting construction, which is quick and easy to build and install.

Ohm Collection - Spring News 2021 by Ifö Electric by Kauppi & Kauppi

Ohm Table 140/190 by Ifö Electric - Design Kauppi & Kauppi 2021

The Ohm Collection grows! The spring launch 2021 by Ifö Electric embraces the classic retrofit bulb and widens the award-winning lighting collection designed by Kauppi & Kauppi. Introducing a new large and airy, clear glass figure tailored for E27 light bulbs – for installations on walls, in ceilings and on tables. In addition, several other new light source options extend the functionality of the grand lighting program.

“When we designed the new large clear glass silhouette, we envisioned an airy light fitting, exposing more of the porcelain - bringing out the best of the exquisite, glazed surfaces. A friendly, warm-glowing and natural living space companion”, says the designers Kauppi & Kauppi.

Ohm is a porcelain light collection for all possible situations and living spaces - indoors as well as outdoors. Inspired by older times porcelain insulators, the design by Kauppi & Kauppi celebrates the material and the century long heritage of Scandinavia’s only press porcelain producer. Since the launch in 2019, the Ohm collection has received global recognition and won several prestigious design awards, honoring its contemporary and yet classic expression.

The collection includes a pioneering splash safe pendant for bathrooms and gardens, traditional light fittings for walls, ceilings and facades - as well as a special range for sauna interiors. The collection also introduced the company’s first range of table lamps, designed to be placed within an arm’s reach, on tables or in windows – enabling a close and tactile connection to the quality of the porcelain.

The news 2021 introduces a new large clear glass silhouette tailored for E27 light bulbs, spreading a welcoming light. A light fitting that follows the overall program with versions for installations on facades, walls, ceilings and tables (Ohm 140/170, Ohm Table 140/190). The previously launched siblings with opal shades, for a gently diffuse light distribution, also receives a new E27 lamp holder option (Ohm 140/170 and Ohm Table 140/190).

Ohm Pendant Outdoor edition by Ifö Electric - Summer Launch 2020 by Kauppi & Kauppi

Ohm Pendant Outdoor Edition 2020 by Ifö Electric - Design Kauppi & Kauppi

The Ohm Pendant Outdoor edition launched by producer Ifö Electric is a new weatherproof suspended porcelain light that brightens up the balcony, veranda or the favorite backyard tree.

The Ohm Pendant (previously launched spring 2020), widens the greater Ohm collection with its unusual splash safe feature for indoor installations. A rarely found suspended luminary attribute, and a necessary aspect to cover when installing hanging light fittings in humid environments, such as bathrooms and wellness interiors. The second launch this year, includes an additional feature. The Ohm Pendant now opens the door to our living spaces outside. Designed by Kauppi & Kauppi, inspired by the century long tradition found at Ifö Electric - Scandinavia’s only press porcelain producer.

We wanted the pendant to follow the company’s tradition of producing multipurpose luminaries that are splash safe and may travel between different types of inside- & outside rooms. It is in a way mirroring our relationship to our living spaces - where we blend and blur the lines of conventional room definitions”, says designer Nina Kauppi.

The new Ohm Pendant Outdoor comes high gloss glazed in white or black, IP44 certified and weatherproof for outdoor use. The white opal shade comes in two lengths; one for a short dense appearance, and a long shade for a more stretched silhouette. The clear glass option gives a possibility to create an individual look, when choosing a light source from today´s wide range of expressive light bulbs.

The pendant is attached to a black rubber covered cord and plug, ready to be plugged in and hung in any outdoor environment where it fulfills a purpose. Strong sun light will reflect but not affect the durable shiny glazed porcelain surface and raindrops may drip and ripple on the splash safe design, without impact.

Ohm Sauna by Ifö Electric - Summer Launch 2020 by Kauppi & Kauppi

Ohm Sauna light by Ifö Electric - Design Kauppi & Kauppi 2020

Ohm Sauna – a new hot feature for the soft curved porcelain luminaries designed by Kauppi & Kauppi for Swedish press porcelain producer Ifö Electric. The latest extension of the Ohm porcelain light collection is now certified and ready to be installed in high temperature sauna environments. The soft wooden interior and the shiny porcelain surface form a great contrasting company, in what often is considered as the heart of a spa - the sauna - a place for relaxation and contemplation.

The soft porcelain figures of Ohm are a welcomed extension of Ifö Electic´s existing sauna fitting assortment and a new extended area of use for the collection. The new addition makes it possible to illuminate an entire wellness interior with the soft and restrained curves of Ohm. A way to achieve a completeness in expression, when combining the sauna luminaries with the earlier launched splash safe pendants, wall & ceiling fixtures in the relax and shower areas.

A narrowed down selection of Ohm luminaries are presented in the sauna edition. The white or black high gloss glazed Ohm 100, with a long clear or opal glass, equipped with an E27 light source for installations on walls and ceilings. The short opal glass version, with a G9 light source, will be available for wall installations.

To develop a light fitting for a testing environment like a hot, damp sauna is a true challenge. To support the selection of sauna lighting fittings Ifö Electric has also developed an assortment of special purpose light sources for their E27, E14, GU10 and G9 sockets. A series of dimmable lamps intended for use in sauna environments.

New Ohm Pendant for Ifö Electric - Spring Launch 2020 by Kauppi & Kauppi

Ohm Pendant by Ifö Electric_Design Kauppi & Kauppi_2020

The Ohm Pendant is a new 2020 addition to the grand Ohm Collection by producer Ifö Electric. The first splash safe suspended light fitting in the company assortment, opens new possibilities for how and where a pendant can be placed. A luminaire design that fits as well into the bathroom, as the bistro or by the bedside. Designed by Kauppi & Kaupp, inspired by the century long tradition found at Scandinavia’s only factory producing pressed porcelain.

“We see the Ohm Pendant as a luminaire for the next generation of bathrooms, developing into something comparable to living room interiors. The design may be recognized as both classic and contemporary, the innovation occurs when the pendants are installed in new types of situations. A porcelain fixture that can easily fit in all types of rooms - where it fulfills a purpose”, says Nina Kauppi.

The Ohm Pendant comes in two colors and three glasses that matches the previous launched lamps for tables, wall and ceiling, binding together the greater Ohm collection. The bases are high gloss glazed in black or white with a matching textile cord. Equipped with a classic E27 light source socket or G9. The pendant and the corresponding ceiling cup are IP44, splash safe certified. The design has taken the IP-classification one step further than usual - since the solution also secures the ceiling installation.

“Our design contributes with soft shapes to the assortment, something which is partly visual, how the luster of the glaze is reflected in the rounded silhouettes. What we mainly wanted to add is a sensory and tactile dimension to the products. So that the advanced industrial production can be experienced by the hand. The relationship we build to objects through our hands, is important”, Nina Kauppi concludes.

The production by Ifö Ifö Electric is made with a long-term perspective in focus. The Ohm light fittings are designed and constructed in a way that enables all components to be disassembled and replaced if necessary. If the light technology standards change in the future, new parts can be added. This means that the luminaires, together with the material's own durability, have the conditions to achieve an exceptionally long lifecycle - neither wind, water nor strong sunlight changes the glazed porcelain surface.

Hygge Collection - Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2020 by Kauppi & Kauppi

hygge-collection_design-kauppi-&-kauppi-for-karl-andersson-&-söner_photo_kauppi-&-kauppi--(1).jpeg
Hygge by Karl Andersson & Söner, Design Kauppi & Kauppi 2020

The Hygge collection is Kauppi & Kauppi’s first design collaboration with the esteemed Swedish wooden furniture producer Karl Andersson & Söner. Inspired by a sailing trip to the Danish island Læsø, the collection of generous ottomans resembles an abstract indoor archipelago – launched at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2020.

“It has been delightful to collaborate with a producer where every project and piece of furniture starts with a raw plank in their own production. An ambitious approach to both craftsmanship and company culture – exemplified in their use of solar energy and their own production of veneer. Values we aimed to reflect when we designed Hygge”, Nina Kauppi says.

The Hygge seating islands comes in three sizes with three selectable accessories – all connected to the extended solid wooden legs. A family of furniture capturing the great woodwork, craftsmanship and tradition found at Karl Andersson & Söner, established in 1898. The accessories are designed to reach out a hand to the small or big needs people may have, sharing a public seating space. One example is the diagonally armrest, creating a support for every individual who appreciate a sturdy grip when rising. An attractive detail in interiors with a certain focus and attention on care.

The Hygge family of furniture is developed to leave a lot of options open for the interior designers. Its flexibility in use, functionality and expression will easy lend itself to interiors in a broad range of styles. Fully dressed in black it will signal a minimalistic and strong attitude, while a blond soft material and surface choice, will emphasize and flirt more with the Scandi-soft tradition” says Johan Kauppi.
