Kauppi & Kauppi

Kauppi & Kauppi is an award-winning design studio based in northernmost and southernmost Sweden. We attained our MFA degrees from HDK-Valand, the Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg, back in 2006. After a decade of gaining significant experience working in-house in the design industry both in Sweden and abroad, we decided to establish our design studio in late 2016.

Nina Kauppi is a Senior Designer specialized in product and industrial design, with a particular expertise in small-scale objects, details, and tactility. She has designed several successful collections for luxury brands such as Tiffany & Co in New York. Johan Kauppi is a Senior Designer bringing a great ability for spatial thinking to the studio, with experiences from working with a broad range of architectural designs – from bridges and outdoor furniture to exhibitions and showrooms.

As a multidisciplinary studio, we approach design in all scales, from large spatial furniture concepts to small tactile objects. Our design follows a Scandinavian tradition and can be identified by a search for a restrained expression, innovation and added values making each project unique and genuine. The inspiration is often found in the dynamic contrast between tranquil nature and pulsing cityscapes – and of course, all the interesting people and productions we have the privilege to work with.

Our design method is of an adaptive nature following every unique project and context, to achieve the visions shared with our partners. We highly value the creative dynamics that arise in close and committed partnerships, as good processes generate good results. Regardless, we always ask ourselves: - How does our design contribute, and what justifies the project? When developing designs, we place great emphasis on creating strategic product families with longevity and durability in mind.
